Title: "The Gardener's Quest"
Step 1: The Ordinary World
Meet our young hero, Lily, a 3rd-grade student living in an urban neighborhood with limited green spaces. She's passionate about plants and loves reading about gardening.
Step 2: The Call to Adventure
One day, Lily's teacher announces a school gardening competition. The winner will be able to transform an empty space into a lush community garden, promoting environmental responsibility.
Step 3: Refusal of the Call
Lily first hesitates, doubting her abilities to create a successful garden. She questions if the urban environment is acceptable for gardening.
Step 4: Meeting the Mentor
She meets Mrs. Green, a local botanist and gardening expert, who introduces her to the world of gardening and provides guidance on using technology for research and adaptation to urban conditions.
Step 5: Crossing the First Threshold (Go into the Technology lesson after this step)
Lily accepts the challenge and begins researching different types of plants, urban gardening techniques, and environmental conditions online, using technology to gather valuable information.
Step 6: Tests, Allies, and Enemies
Throughout her journey, Lily faces challenges like limited space, poor soil quality, and pollution. She finds friends in her online gardening community who share their experiences and solutions.
Step 7: Approach to the Inmost Cave
The vacant lot is the most troubling of challenges and Lily must turn the barren, empty land where plants cannot grow, into a flourishing garden. She also learns about the potential impact of urban gardening on the environment.
Step 8: Ordeal
Lily also faces the challenge of dealing with a city-wide drought and pollution. Using technology and her knowledge about how much sunlight, water, and the correct soil type to use, she designs an efficient irrigation system, a man-made water system made of tubes, pumps, and sprays.
Step 9: Reward (Seizing the Bloom)
Lily's garden not only thrives but attracts pollinators, improving air quality. She wins the gardening competition and receives the opportunity to transform the vacant lot into a community garden.
Step 10: The Road Back
With the lessons learned and her commitment to environmentally friendly practices, Lily documents her journey online. She shares her experience and knowledge of what plants need to survive, such as the correct amount of sunlight, water, and soil, inspiring others to take up urban gardening and environmental responsibility.
Step 11: Resurrection
Later that night, a storm threatens to destroy her garden, but Lily immediately uses her device and looks up ways to protect her garden, and she takes action. She emerges as a hero who can adapt and thrive in urban gardening conditions.
Step 12: Return with the Elixir
Lily returns to her city with a vibrant community garden, transforming an ignored empty space into a green paradise. She's not just a gardener but a Guardian of the Urban Green, inspiring others to embrace gardening and technology for environmental stewardship.

-We will use a digital collaboration platform like Padlet to allow students to work on their plant projects collaboratively. Each student or group can have a virtual board to design their plant, add stickers, and discuss their choices with peers.
Virtual Plant Design:
-Students with access to digital drawing tools or websites where they can design and decorate their virtual potted plants. Tools online drawing apps can be helpful for this purpose.

5.1 a)Set professional learning goals to explore and apply teaching strategies for integrating CT practices into learning activities to enhance student learning of the academic discipline and CS concepts.
As a group, enroll in CT-focused professional development courses, create lesson plans incorporating CT principles into my existing curriculum, and regularly assess student progress to ensure successful integration, ultimately enhancing their problem-solving such as pollution in our world, and analytical skills in both the academic subject and CS.
5.2 e) Communicate with students, parents, and leaders about the impacts of computing in our world and across diverse roles and professional life and why these skills are essential for all students.
We will convey to students, parents, and school leaders at Metro, the significance of computing in our rapidly evolving world and its relevance across diverse professions. Emphasize the essential nature of these skills for all students, as they empower them to navigate an increasingly digital world and open doors to a wide range of future career opportunities.
5.3 c)Plan collaboratively with other educators to create learning activities that cross disciplines to strengthen student understanding of CT and CS concepts and transfer application of knowledge in new contexts.
As we work closely with fellow educators (Read Students) to develop cross-disciplinary learning activities that reinforce students' comprehension of computational thinking (CT) and computer science (CS) concepts. These activities will enable students to apply their knowledge in diverse contexts, fostering a deeper understanding of how CT and CS skills are relevant in a variety of academic and real-world situations.
5.4 d)Create CS and CT learning environments that value and encourage varied viewpoints, student agency, creativity, engagement, joy, and fun.
By creating such spaces, we aim to inspire students to fully embrace these subjects, fostering a love for learning and innovation in CS and CT!
Great activity Mia! I am excited to see you all do it next week. Your activity aligns well with your ISTE standards. You guys are empowering students with knowledge and understanding with diverse perspectives and activities. Using 5.2e was a perfect standard to align with this activity because we all are communicating with students, parents, and peers. Computing sure is evolving so it is crucial for students to learn these skills.
